Chase Ealey is an American track and field athlete who competes in throwing events. She participated in sports for the clubs named Desert High Performance and Oklahoma Stet Cowgirls. She competed at the World Championship 2022 in Eugene, Oregon, thus becoming the first American woman to win the world championship in shot put by winning the gold medal. Besides this, she is also the 2022 world indoors silver medalist. She is presently coached by Paul Wilson, who is a former discus thrower.

Junior Athletic Career

With a shot put throw of 14.40 meters and a 100-meter speed of 12.35 seconds, Ealey won the state championships in New Mexico in 2012. In the shot put with a throw of 12.8968 meters and the 100 meters in 12.52 seconds, Ealey finished first in the 2011 New Mexico 4A State Track & Field Championships. She captured the girls’ 100-meter sprint title at the 2010 New Mexico 4A State Championships with a timing of 12.46 seconds and finished second in the girls’ shot put with a throw of 12.11 meters, narrowly defeating her sister Taylor Ealey, who was two years older and in the 12th grade. Shen then finished second in the girls shot put event at the 2009 New Mexico 4A State Championships with a throw of 12.095 meters. In addition, she won the first place in the 100-meter race with a timing of 12.73 seconds.

Senior Professional Career

Ealey finished fifth at the U.S. Olympic Trials but was unable to compete in the Tokyo Olympics because to a prolonged case of Covid-19. Ealey made the decision to move from Arizona to England in order to work with coach Paul Wilson at the City of York Athletic Club following a training session with Sophie McKinna of the United Kingdom in January. In the 2022 World Indoor Championship Shot Put final, Ealey tied Michelle Carter’s North American and American record with a distance of 20.21 meters to win the silver medal. In June, she achieved a personal best of 20.51 meters to win the 2022 US national title for the fourth time.

Ealey’s hard work and struggles finally paid off when she claimed the shot put final at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in 2022 with a first attempt of 20.49 meters. According to Olympic sport historian Bill Mallon, Ealey  is the only women’s shot put world champion to win on her first attempt. Ealey’s victory makes her the first American woman to win a shot put world championship since the competition’s inception in 1983. Ealey is also the first American to win a world title at the Worlds, which are being held in the United States for the first time. Only Michelle Carter’s American record (20.63m) and Ealey’s personal best are farther than the winning throw of 20.49 meters by an American woman.
