Newcastle vs Leicester: Bruno Guimaraes wants to be a Newcastle 'legend' after scoring the 95th minute winner

Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes hopes to become Newcastle United ‘legend’ after the Brazilian’s heroics helped his side secure a superb come-from-behind 2-1 victory against Leicester City on Sunday. The 24-year-old canceled out Ademola Lookman’s opener before heading home a last-gasp winner to secure all three points for the Magpies. Meanwhile the result was a big boost to Newcastle’s survival as they are now 12 points away from the drop zone.

The playmaker joined the Premier League club in the mid-season from Lyon and he has now scored three goals for the club in eleven league appearances.

Leicester put their nose in front on 19 minutes courtesy of a well-worked corner kick, which was converted by Lookman after being flicked on by Perez. On the hour-mark, Guimaraes’ close-range shot was blocked by Leicester keeper Kasper Schmiechel, but the Brazilian poked home the rebound to make the score 1-1.

Just when it looked like the game was heading into a draw, Guimaraes headed home in the fifth minute of injury time. Willock got past Youri Tielemans and delivered a perfect cross for the Brazilian to convert  with a dramatic diving header.

“I don’t have words,” Guimaraes told Newcastle’s NUTV channel at full time. “It was incredible [to] score my first goal here. The win was incredible. I’m feeling good. I need to speak my thanks to the fans, because the energy was incredible today.

“I am very happy over here. We have settled in really well. I always wanted to play in the Premier League – it’s been a dream of mine, so playing for Newcastle has been very pleasurable.

“I want to be a legend here. It’s special for me. I don’t have words.”

It was Newcastle’s fifth straight home Premier League win and they have now moved to 14th spot in the standings with 37 points from 32 games.
