Gleison Bremer's Serie A best defender award illustrates why Europe's big guns are after him

Torino FC star Gleison Bremer won the Serie A’s Best Defender award on Saturday and it’s no surprise that some of the Europe’s big guns are after him. The  25 year-old exploded from a promising player to one of the very best in Italy this term and the Brazilian is expected to leave the club this summer. According to multiple reports, the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Inter Milan are interested in the centre-back. Spurs have been heavily linked with Bremer as Antonio Conte looks to bring in a new defender while Corrie Granata claimed all the way back in December 2020 that the Reds wanted the player.

Liverpool are interested but Inter Milan are favourites to sign him, as per reports

Goal reported in April that Liverpool still want Bremer, with Inter the favourites to sign him. The Serie A giants are very serious about signing Bremer this Summer with Milan Skriniar linked with a move away from San Siro. Meanwhile Premier League’s new rich kids Newcastle are the latest side to be linked with the Brazilian. The Magpies were reportedly assessing Bremer as one of the several defensive options in January, and they had the advantage of already working with CAA Base, the player’s agency, in the signings of Chris Wood and Keiran Trippier.

Bremer had a sold season for Torino

Bremer made 33 appearances for Torino this term, scoring 3 goals and registering 1 assist. Torino had the fifth best defensive record in Serie A, conceding just 1.08 goals per 90 minutes.Bremer finished the season with an impressive number of 1.5 tackles, 4 clearances and 3.2 interceptions per game. The best defender award only solidifies the theory that he will be looking to break into the scene of the Elite this summer.

Bremer is a strongly-built defender

The Brazilian stands 1.88m tall and has a strongly built physique. He is very strong in the air and reads the game pretty well to make crucial interceptions. The big boy doesn’t shy away from making solid tackles and is an imposing figure in the back-line. Meanwhile passing will be an area he needs to improve and with age on his side, the youngster will surely get better as time goes.
