Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma continued his poor show in the Indian Premier League 2022 as he was dismissed for two runs in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. However, his early dismissal, stirred an uproar on social media as most fans and members of the cricket fraternity thought the decision was wrongly ruled in the favour of the bowling side by the third umpire.

Rohit Sharma stepped into bat with Ishan Kishan on the other end with Mumbai Indians chasing a target of 166 runs. Veteran New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee outsmarted the India captain on the last delivery of the first over as the ball went past close from the edge of his bat and hit the thigh pad as Sheldon Jackson took a one-handed stunner behind the stumps. It was a brilliant effort from the KKR wicket keeper-batter behind the stumps and the on field umpires gave it not out.
However, Jackson, was convinced that Sharma got an edge to the delivery while he completed the catch and the decision should be ruled in favour of KKR. He convinced his captain Shreyas Iyer to opt for the TV review and he obliged. In the TV review, the ultraedge showed that there were spikes on the snickometer when the ball was close to Sharma’s bat. But the decision turned out to be even more confusing as there were also some spikes even before the ball came close to the MI skipper. Third umpire Bruce Oxenford, however, though that it was out and asked the on-field umpire to switch his decision and declare Sharma out.
