Overview of Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 Episode 5

In the starting of episode, In order to find any information that would aid Ranpo in solving the puzzling case, Poe searches over the manuscript. When questioned about it by his friend, Minoura discusses the Kindaichi murder case, in which the book’s title character was discovered dead in the inn room where he was staying, just as it was described in the book the victim was writing at the time. Poe discovers water droplets on the final page and reads from the manuscript that the killer is an acquaintance of the victim who was driven by rage, in line with Ranpo’s conclusion. Unexpectedly, he gets a phone call while he examines the page that will be photocopied as opposed to being handwritten.

Mushitaro thinks Ranpo’s conclusion—that the evidence suppressor and the murderer who fell from the sky are the same person—is improbable as they travel. The manuscript’s last page, which Ranpo discovered folded and concealed in a gift shop after realising the manuscript’s last page in the red envelope was a photocopy, is taken out and shown to Mushitaro as proof. He therefore assumes that the offender was in a rush to photocopy the final page for a specific reason. Ranpo finally accuses Mushitaro of being responsible for both crimes after asking for his name.

The vehicle abruptly stops and raises his gun to Ranpo, but Mushitaro tells him to put it away because the detective doesn’t actually have any proof that could implicate them. They are encircled by police as the driver motions for them to go; on the other end of the phone conversation, Ranpo admits to have arranged it with Poe’s assistance. Minoura tries to detain Mushitaro and the driver, but the latter uses his diplomatic privileges and demonstrates that his lawfully carried weapon is not loaded, preventing their detention. They are allowed to go by Ranpo.

Along the journey, Mushitaro gets a phone call and a message from Ranpo, who declares his determination to overcome a person with abilities like him since his coworkers believe in him despite the fact that he is a non-user of abilities. Mushitaro is transferred to the world of the novel and awakens to Yokomizo strangling him out of spite. The message turns out to be Poe’s work, which recreates the Kindaichi murder scene at Ranpo’s request. Mushitaro comments on the incident’s inaccuracy, but Ranpo walks up and reveals how it actually happened—that is, with Mushitaro strangling Yokomizo to death.

Mushitaro says that he can easily escape the novel after he discloses the facts of the murder case once, he knows that he is in Poe’s power and is aware of how the situation will be resolved, but Ranpo claims that Mushitaro would ultimately give up with what he tells him. Ranpo explains how the details of the text too closely resemble a real-life murder case and concludes that everything that happened was staged and, in the end, a suicide to create the illusion of a larger-than-life mystery that piqued people’s curiosity.

Yokomizo, who was dying from a specific type of intestinal cancer, had vowed to solve his greatest mystery before he passed away. He eventually assigned Mushitaro to be both the mystery’s and Yokomizo’s killer. Mushitaro then acknowledges that Ranpo was correct in his analysis, albeit Ranpo uses the last page that is smudged with droplets to effectively conclude that Mushitaro was crying when killing Yokomizo, pointing out that once the presumed purpose is revealed, it may be reversed.

Ranpo threatens to force Mushitaro to surrender if he doesn’t want to reveal his deduction and violate Yokomizo’s dying wish, claiming that he will adopt Fyodor’s techniques himself in order to better safeguard the Agency. Mushitaro surrenders to the police after being defeated. Poe tells Ranpo that the body double that went off the tower was only supplied to him by Fyodor, making it conceivable for Mushitaro to have never killed anybody other than Yokomizo. Minoura tells Ranpo that evidence in support of Kunikida’s release has begun to emerge. Before being hauled away, Ranpo reminds Mushitaro that he would assist him in finding employment should he ever need it and directs him to a Special Division agent in danger of having their cover blown.

Mushitaro and the police car that is transporting him are stopped as Ranpo burns the final page of the book. The police officer is subsequently fatally shot at close range by a uniformed officer who removes his mask and identifies himself as Nikolai. The Decay of the Angel, a five-team terrorist organisation, will soon be arriving, according to Nikolai, a subordinate of Fyodor. Mushitaro reaches for the police car’s radio transceiver and tells Ranpo to avoid accepting the Agency’s next case at all costs before being interrupted by the accompanying gunfire.
