Cristiano Ronaldo news: Manchester United striker scores most Premier League home goals & sets a new record

Cristiano Ronaldo might have reached 37 earlier this year but that has not slowed down the Portuguese centre-forward, who continues to be a nightmare for Premier League defenders. Ronaldo continued his recent impressive goal-scoring streak by converting from the spot-kick against Brentford on Monday night at Old Trafford. The penalty was won by Ronaldo from a brilliant bit of play on the right flank. The Portuguese superstar has scored 24 goals in all competitions this campaign and 18 of them have come in the league, while the remaining six were scored in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo impressed against Brentford

Besides, the Manchester United No.7 has now scored the most number of home goals in the Premier League this season. During the comprehensive 3-0 victory over Brentford on Monday night, Ronaldo scored his 14th Old Trafford goal of the 2021/22 season. The Man-of-the-Match performance by the 37-year-old forward helped the club end their home campaign with a comfortable win. Not just for his goal, but throughout the match, Ronaldo has been impressive with his work rate.

Manchester United striker third in Golden Boot race

He could have had one more at the beginning of the first half but the goal was ruled out for offside. Nonetheless, the goal at the start of the second period has helped Ronaldo take his tally to 18 goals in the Premier League this season. Notably, it was the same tally he had reached in the competition during his final campaign in his first stint, back in 2008/09. Besides, in his last three games at Old Trafford, he has scored five goals. Following a hat-trick against Norwich City, he also scored against Chelsea and Brentford.

In the Premier League Golden Boot tally, Ronaldo is only one goal shy of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min and four behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. However, if one has to take the home goals in the Premier League into account, then Ronaldo has scored one more than Son and three more than Salah.

Most Premier League goals at home this season:

Name Club Goals
Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United 14
Son Heung-min Tottenham Hotspur 13
Mohamed Salah Liverpool 11
Sadio Mane Liverpool 10
Kevin De Bruyne Manchester City 9

Cristiano Ronaldo creates another history

His 18th goal against Brentford this season in the Premier League on Monday night means Ronaldo has created another milestone. At 37, Ronaldo has matched former Wolves player Johnny Hancocks’ feat from the 1955-56 season. He has now gone one ahead of Preston North End legend Tom Finney, who achieved the landmark in 1959-60. With the Portuguese star still having to play Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace this season, he could very well get past Hancocks’ record.
