Within the last few weeks, WWE has made a push to bring Jeff Hardy back to the company. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this is the case. He claims that WWE’s head of talent relations, John Laurinaitis, contacted Jeff a few weeks ago with an offer that included a 2022 Hall of Fame induction, but Hardy declined. In response, Jeff requested that the company return his drug test results, believing that he would not test positive for recreational drugs. In December, Jeff’s brother, Matt, made a similar point, stating that once the results were made public, the public would feel better about his sibling’s WWE release.

According to Meltzer, Jeff and his wife waited six weeks for the results. The fact that WWE doesn’t want Hardy in AEW, where the Hardy Boyz could become a revitalised act against tag teams like The Young Bucks, FTR, and others, is part of the company’s motivation to bring him back. Jeff, on the other hand, is still bound by a non-compete clause until March 9th. Hardy was fired by WWE in early December after walking out in the middle of a house show main event earlier that month. Jeff was later revealed to have been offered the chance to go to rehab by WWE, which he turned down.

Stone Cold praise

The Hardy Boyz consisting of real-life brothers Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy were an enigma in their peak days. The American tag-team champions signed their first contract with the erstwhile WWF, now WWE, in 1997. Their rise to fame came after winning the WWE/World, WCW, TNA, ROH, Raw, and SmackDown Tag Team Championships which helped them earn the greatest tag team in WWE history accolade in 2012. Interestingly, during their rise, six-time WWF Champion ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin also complimented their style and capability to enthral the fans.

Matt Hardy recalled that Stone Cold walked up to The Hardy Boyz to share a beer for their stunning show in the ladder match against Edge and Christian at WWE No Mercy 1999. It is also notable tha Stone Cold lost his match against Triple H in an Anything Goes Match for the WWE Championship in the main event of No Mercy 1999.

“When the match was over, I remember Mick Foley coming and congratulating us. Just the most genuine, heartfelt congratulations…he’s a guy who made such a name doing death matches and taking crazy insane bumps and he saw us go out there and do this amazing match that was a breakthrough scenario as far as ladder matches go,” the AEW star said on the inaugural episode of the inaugural episode of his new podcast.
