A 734-day streak came to an end at the Royal Rumble. WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns was defeated by Seth Rollins — by DQ – at Saturday night’s event.

Since being eliminated by Drew McIntyre in the 2020 Royal Rumble, Reigns had not lost on a WWE pay-per-view.

Furthermore, Reigns hadn’t lost a PPV singles bout since losing to King Corbin in a TLC match at TLC 2019.

Reigns was also pinned for the last time in any WWE bout – including non-televised live events – in his loss to Corbin.

Later that night, Reigns reunited with Paul Heyman and cost Brock Lesnar the WWE Championship. Lesnar was put down with a spear by Reigns; he then nailed The Beast with a belt shot to the face. To begin his second reign as WWE Champion, Bobby Lashley covered Lesnar.

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar

After winning the men’s Royal Rumble last night, Brock Lesnar will now headline at WrestleMania 38.

Of course, the Beast Incarnate was always going to be a part of this year’s Showcase of the Immortals in some capacity.

Bbut we now have a better sense of what role Lesnar will play at WrestleMania in April.

Reigns and Heyman cheated Lesnar out of the WWE Championship at the 2022 Royal Rumble PPV. The Tribal Chief and his special counsel cost Lesnar his match and reward against Lashley.

While Lashley was victorious and walked away as the new WWE Champion from St. Louis, Lesnar subsequently entered the men’s, Royal Rumble.

With a starting position of #30, the former UFC Heavyweight Champion defeated five opponents – Randy Orton, Bad Bunny, Riddle, Shane McMahon, and Drew McIntyre – to become the last man standing in the over-the-top-rope spectacular.

It hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s safe to assume that Lesnar’s victory in the Royal Rumble will set him up for a fight against Reigns at WrestleMania 38.

The Head of the Table’s other Rumble action was defending his championship against former Shield sibling Rollins in an opening bout. Reigns was disqualified for refusing to let go of a guillotine choke, and Rollins was awarded the DQ win.

But now, it is for sure The “Beast Incarnate” is coming for The “Head of The Table” and they will most likely face each other at the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania 38.
