It has been some time since Cody Rhodes left AEW to return to WWE and re-debut on the grandest stage of all at WrestleMania 38, but the guy known as the Roller Code-ster in AEW is still being questioned about why he made such a drastic career change. Today, Rhodes did so again, responding to a fan on Twitter who said they weren’t going to watch AEW Double or Nothing because of Rhodes’ departure. It should be noted that following Rhodes’ reaction, the fan removed the tweet.

Cody Rhodes tweeted on Twitter, “Full stop: the money and creative story that misguided brudda [sic] put out there has already been rebuffed by all parties,” Rhodes tweeted. “I’m proud of my peers/kids there and my accomplishments as competitor/EVP. It was just personal and it was just time to go for the big one.”

Cody Rhodes ‘A Gatekeeper’

It’s questionable which rumors Rhodes is alluding to, although other AEW performers refuted claims by Wade Keller at the period, including one which said Rhodes’ wife, Brandi Rhodes, was despised backstage. In a recent interview on Steve Austin‘s Broken Skull Sessions, Rhodes stated that he quit AEW because he didn’t wanted to be “a gatekeeper” in the business.

Following his exit, Rhodes still continued to promote the organization he helped start in 2019 and to urge viewers to watch AEW content. Several stars of the AEW roster have maintained in touch with him, with FTW World Champion Ricky Starks recently confirming that he still consults Rhodes for assistance. Back in 2020, Starks made his AEW debut against Rhodes, unsuccessfully attempting to win the AEW TNT Championship.

The American Nightmare is eyeing the WWE Championship

The American Nightmare after coming back to WWE has given very significant matches, beating Rollins in all their pay-per-views. Now mostly he is eyeing to get an oppurtunity to win the championship gold. Like his Hall of famer father, he wishes to add championships in many of his accolades and become one of the greatest champion as well. Rhodes indicated interest in adding the WWE Championship to his list of accomplishments for the organisation in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated. He went on to say that it was his fate and his ambition to do this.

Rhodes while speaking to Sports Illustrated emphasized and said, “My father Dusty, my brother Dustin, they’re both legends, but they never held the WWE title,” Rhodes says. “Everything I’m doing is very real. This is my path and my burden. Whether or not it is unobtainable, it is mine to seek.”
