WrestleMania 38 is now around the corner and most of the big matches are set. One of the bigger matches on the women’s side of things involves Ronda Rousey taking on Charlotte Flair.

The two will square off for Flair’s SmackDown women’s championship. The other big match will be Bianca Belair challenging RAW women’s champion Becky Lynch.

However, a new report suggests WWE had another match in mind to headline things from the women’s side of things.

GiveMeSport reported that WWE seriously considered doing a Four Horsewomen Fatal Four Way match at their biggest event of the year.

This match would have seen Flair, Lynch, Sasha Banks and Bayley close out Night 1 of WrestleMania 38 if it had taken place.

The main reason this match did not happen, however, was due to Rousey becoming available. WWE knew she would be available to book in December.

At that time, the call was made to have the former UFC champion in one of the showcase matches. But in order to do this, there was a need to pivot away from the original plans.

The report further adds that plans for the match have not been canned, merely postponed. The company is keen to do the match at some point in the future.

As things stand, however, there is no surety as to what Banks and Bayley will be doing at the ‘Showcase of the Immortals’.

That being said, it’s worth noting this match has actually happened once before. At NXT Takeover: Rival in February 2015, Flair defended her NXT women’s title against the four.

That match would be won by Banks, who kicked off a 192-day title run before dropping the strap to Bayley.

WrestleMania 38 – the card so far

With it officialy being WrestleMania season, the card is beginning to take shape. The two women’s title matches are set in stone, as is the match for the men’s titles.

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar are set to collide in a champion vs champion, winner-takes-all main event at the show.

Reigns is the current Universal champion, and has held the belt since SummerSlam 2020. He’s also been in the midst of a feud with Lesnar, who won the belt at Elimination Chamber.

Incidentally, this won’t be the first time the two headline WrestleMania. The two went on last at WrestleMania 31, when Reigns was the Royal Rumble winner challenging WWE champion Lesnar.

They again faced off in the WrestleMania main event at WrestleMania 34, when Lesnar was the Universal champion. And this will be the third time they face off, with both being champions this time around.

Other matches are yet to be confirmed by WWE.
