Eduardo Gory Guerrero Llanes, also known as Eddie Guerrero, was born on October 9, 1967. He was a professional wrestler from the United States. As the son of first-generation wrestler Gory Guerrero, he was a notable member of the Guerrero wrestling family. Guerrero wrestled for numerous major professional wrestling organizations in Mexico and Japan, including Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and, most notably, World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment (WWF/WWE) in the United States. Guerrero’s character was “Latino Heat,” a cunning, clever wrestler who will go to any length to win a bout. “I Lie! I Cheat! I Steal!” became his slogan, and it was used in one of his entrance tunes.

Early Career

Although being a heel for the most of his career, he was popular both inside and outside the ring, and he was at the zenith of his career as a face from 2003 to 2005, being the #1 wrestler on the SmackDown brand in 2004. He struggled with drug abuse difficulties, including drinking and a painkiller addiction; these real-life troubles were occasionally interwoven into his novels. Guerrero began his wrestling career in Mexican organisations, where he formed a renowned tag team with Art Barr. Guerrero had his first major exposure in the United States after the death of Barr in 1995, when he joined ECW and won the ECW World Television Championship.

Moving to WCW then to WWF

Later that year, Guerrero joined WCW, where he became WCW United States Champion, WCW Cruiserweight Champion, and Latino World Order leader. He departed WCW in 2000 as the business refused to promote him to the main event. He joined the WWF with former WCW teammates Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, and Perry Saturn, who became The Radicalz. Guerrero went on to capture the WWF European and Intercontinental Championships before being released in 2001 due to substance abuse difficulties.

Return to WWE & Death

He created Los Guerreros with his cousin Chavo after being rehired in 2002, capturing the WWE Tag Team Championship and establishing himself on the SmackDown brand. At No Way Out 2004, he rose to main event status and won the WWE Championship, his lone global championship. Later that year, he lost the championship, although he remained a popular main eventer until his death on November 13, 2005. He was inducted into the WWE, AAA, Wrestling Observer Newsletter, and Hardcore Hall of fame after his death.
