The Hardy Boyz consisting of real-life brothers Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy were an enigma in their peak days. The American tag-team champions signed their first contract with the erstwhile WWF, now WWE, in 1997. Their rise to fame came after winning the WWE/World, WCW, TNA, ROH, Raw, and SmackDown Tag Team Championships which helped them earn the greatest tag team in WWE history accolade in 2012. Interestingly, during their rise, six-time WWF Champion ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin also complimented their style and capability to enthral the fans.

Matt Hardy recalled that Stone Cold walked up to The Hardy Boyz to share a beer for their stunning show in the ladder match against Edge and Christian at WWE No Mercy 1999. It is also notable tha Stone Cold lost his match against Triple H in an Anything Goes Match for the WWE Championship in the main event of No Mercy 1999.

“When the match was over, I remember Mick Foley coming and congratulating us. Just the most genuine, heartfelt congratulations…he’s a guy who made such a name doing death matches and taking crazy insane bumps and he saw us go out there and do this amazing match that was a breakthrough scenario as far as ladder matches go,” the AEW star said on the inaugural episode of the inaugural episode of Matt Hardy’s new podcast.

“The other person that really stands out to me is Stone Cold Steve Austin…Steve was obviously the hottest person in the industry at this time…He came up to us at the very end and says, ‘Oh guys, I gotta tell you, you can’t lie about this one, you guys stole the show tonight.’ To get that love was mind-blowing.”

Matt Hardy also said that the words from Stone Cold were encouraging. It was at the No Mercy event in 1999 that The Hardy Boyz defeated Edge and Christian. They were accompanied by Gangrel during the event.

The Hardy Boyz were well known for their approach innovations in the ladder matches and Tables, Ladders and Chairs matches with The Dudley Boyz and Edge and Christian.

They accumulated a total of 12-time world tag team champions across WWE, TNA, and ROH, having won the WWE/World Tag Team Championship six times, the Raw Tag Team Championship once, the SmackDown Tag Team Championship once, the WCW Tag Team Championship once (in WWE), the TNA World Tag Team Championship twice, and the ROH World Tag Team Championship once.
