WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin knows a thing or two about sticking with a hot narrative. So, as the reign of Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns approaches 1,000 days, Austin believes WWE is making the proper decision by keeping the title on him.

“Roman’s so hot right now and he’s doing great. I thought it was the right finish [at WrestleMania 39] and I loved it,” Austin told “SI Media with Jimmy Traina” this week. “It only made an opportunity for you to care more about Cody Rhodes.” Meanwhile, Austin said, Reigns should have no trouble holding down the fort. “I think there’s something so special with Roman,” he said. “I don’t think they intended on it being a 1000-day reign or whatever it is right now, but the young man has just put the pieces together so good.”

Austin feels that after The Shield dissolved in 2014, Reigns “really struggled” because WWE was “writing him some bad stuff and he had to find himself.” He likened it to Reigns’ cousin Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s early days in WWE in the 1990s before things clicked for the “Brahma Bull” and he discovered a charm that worked for him.

Roman Reigns will appear less and less on WWE

Last Friday, WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns returned to SmackDown to begin the build for the Night of Champions Tag Team Title fight against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Reigns has been added to a house show in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Saturday, May 20, but expect to see increasingly less of him at WWE events as the year unfolds. On social media today, insider account Boozer #BWE revealed that there are plans to replace the “huge void” that Reigns will depart shortly “with other huge names.”

When asked if Reigns would take his belts with him if he took another hiatus, #BWE said, “Yes.” In response to rumors that Reigns will leave WWE this year, #BWE said, “No, but less schedule with time.” Nick Khan has openly indicated that Reigns has Hollywood ambitions and that WWE would collaborate with him on TV/movie projects.
