WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has maintained his title reign for the longest-time in the history of the company. However, the latest edition of WWE SmackDown, saw Reigns lose his composure as he had cut short an intense promo after losing his composure and screamed at the audience to acknowledge him. It was an unusual sight from the Universal Champion which made WWE legend Dutch Mantell remark on his shift in character.

Mantell was delighted to see Reigns shown his emotions for the first-time in WWE and believes that he was losing control ahead of the much-anticipated clash against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38.

“That was good. It was the first time we’ve really seen him show any emotion, and it got over because now I think he’s shown to some of us, now if he gets, they could say he is becoming unhinged. He is showing that the pressure is getting to him,” Dutch Mantell was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

“Roman’s interview tonight, he got a little more emotional, a little more fired up. The crowd got fired up, and it’s the first time I’ve seen him that way, and I’m sure the crowd too, and he was good like that. He got out of that laidback, complacent mode that he’s usually in, and he showed some fire. People liked it. I liked it. It’s going in stages, so it’s good.”

Roman Reigns continues to add to legacy

Reigns who was an important part of The Shield set a new record as WWE Universal Champion by maintaining his position for over 500 days. Reigns has, thus, become the longest-reigning Universal Champion. In fact, he surpassed Brock Lesnar’s previous record of 503 days from 2017-2018 which came to an end at the hands of none other than The Head of The Table himself.

Reigns made a comeback at the SummerSlam last year with Paul Heyman to claim the Universal title for the second time after overcoming WWE legends Edge, John Cena and The Beast in a No Holds Barred Triple Threat Match.

Following the fallout, Reigns continued to team-up with Ambrose. But, he started embarking as a singles contender and was challenged for the world title. Reigns and Rollins were earlier supposed to clash in 2014. But the former developed a hernia which had to be addressed and he could not compete at the event. He was also awarded the Slammy Award for the Superstar of the Year in 2014.

Reigns has seen significant growth at the company since then. He also completed 500 days as WWE Universal Champion after defeating Braun Strowman and The Fiend at WWE Payback in 2020.

It has been 548 days since he has claimed the WWE Universal Champion belt.
