The WWE saw a lot of popular babyfaces but no one came close to the popularity and love that Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat enjoyed from the fans. A natural face who was arguably the best in-ring technical wrestler during his time, Steamboat enthralled audiences wherever he went. He went on to win a lot of titles by the time his career came to an end and rightfully so because he was that good. Another thing that set him apart was his move-set. The Dragon was a high flyer whose moves inside and outside the ring made the fans fall in love with him. Being in the wrestling world for such a long time, it is only natural that Ricky had some great rivals. In this article, we will take a look at some of them.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts

The Snake and The Dragon were up against each other and it always felt it this feud would happen just for the nature of the two characters. The two men met in what was a grudge match and it felt like the wily Roberts had Steamboat’s number when the match kicked off. Steamboat started off the match in his trademark style, chops, arm drags and cross bodies. He did that in the hope that this would slow down Roberts as the match progressed. Roberts hit Ricky with a gutbuster but Steamboat reversed it and rolled up The Snake for a very famous win.

Randy Savage

WrestleMania 3 was host to probably the most anticipated matches of that year. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat vs Macho Man Randy Savage. The match was a very high profile one and the stakes couldn’t be any higher for both men as the Intercontinental Championship was on the line. The match was a treat for the fans as both the wrestlers were great technical wrestlers. There were a lot of near falls and jaw-dropping moves done by both men. Steamboat won the match in emphatic fashion and the match was fitting for a worthy WrestleMania match that wowed the fans present in the arena.

Chris Jericho

Steamboat was named as one of the members to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009. After the announcement, Steamboat was attacked by Chris Jericho, who began to feud with the Hall of Famer. In his first match in nearly 15 years, Steamboat returned to the ring alongside Rowdy Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka to take on Jericho at WrestleMania 25. While both Snuka and Piper were swiftly eliminated during the match, Steamboat held his own against Jericho, performing exceptionally well for his age and also dropped some of his trademark moves. Jericho would eventually go on to win the match and Steamboat received a lot of plaudits for his performance.
