According to Fightful Select, Goldberg is slated to return to the narrative shortly and will wrestle at the WWE Elimination Chamber event in Saudi Arabia. Goldberg is now scheduled to face WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, with the championship on the line. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Reigns withdrew from the match and took some time off, which was originally slated for WrestleMania 36 in 2020. He came back to the wrestling ring in August 2020 and has held the title since Payback on August 30, 2020.

Goldberg initially announced that he had one more bout on his WWE contract, but he has now clarified that he is under contract with the company until 2023. According to the latest report, folks anticipate that his contract will be up after the Elimination Chamber battle. Goldberg’s contract was intended for two matches each year, although there was talk of it being extended for three matches in 2021.

Since returning to the ring in 2019 to lose to The Undertaker at Super Showdown, Goldberg has done a few matches every year. He beat Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam 2019, then defeated then-Universal Champion “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at Super Showdown 2020, lost the Universal Title to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 36 in 2020, lost to then-WWE Champion Drew McIntyre at the 2021 Royal Rumble, lost to then-and-current WWE Champion Bobby Lashley at SummerSlam 2021, and then defeated Lashley in a No Holds Barred Falls count anywhere match at the crown jewel in October 2021.

Goldberg’s return plans

Following his October victory against Lashley, Goldberg, 55, allegedly underwent knee surgery, but later stated in late December that he need shoulder surgery. He stated that after he was done with the ring, he would receive shoulder surgery, but there has been no more word since then.

There’s no indication on whether Goldberg will come to TV to promote the Elimination Chamber bout, but if he’s performing an in-person angle with Reigns, he’ll have to do so this week, next week, or on the February 18 go-home edition of SmackDown.
