A long time before CM Punk made his AEW debut, the ‘Best in the World’ appeared on WWE Backstage for a brief period of time as a special contributor and commentator.

It was Renee Paquette who introduced us to CM Punk’s initial comeback to the wrestling profession, and the program was only around for a brief period of time.

On that fateful day, just a handful of individuals were aware that Punk would be making a triumphant comeback, and Paquette was one of them.

But there were many who worked for WrestleMania in the control room who responded negatively to his reappearance.

“There were people in the control room that worked for WWE, that were there at FOX and did not know that he was coming back and they were freaking out in the control room,” she told Sportskeeda.

“Like, ‘Oh my god, what’s happening, what’s happening?’ In a bad way. As if we’d done something we were not supposed to do. I was like, ‘It’s okay’. We all know. It’s all cool. Everyone’s contracts have seen signed.”

Despite Samoa Joe, Paige, Booker T, and Adam Cole being on the show, none of them knew Punk was returning.

Renee continued saying, “Knowing that the world was about to erupt, to see CM Punk back in that capacity, it was a lot of fun. It was just so cool.

“It was just so nice to see him just get back to doing what he does. And you know having him in that analysts’ role was fun, but God, it’s so much better to see him wrestling.”

CM Punk in AEW

From a distance, it seems like CM Punk has returned to his roots as a professional wrestler.

In August, after seven hard years away from the business that made him renowned, the 42-year-old returned to AEW. Having him back has been a huge hit with wrestling fans.

Currently, he is in an ongoing feud with MJF. The two are set to face off in a Dog Collar match at the upcoming Revolution PPV.
