At the start of 2005, he turned heel and entered a rivalry with The Undertaker, challenging him to about at WrestleMania 21. Even though Orton was a previous world champion, he still had a lot to prove to fans and backstage personnel. He needed to show that he was more than a clichéd “beautiful face” within the squared circle. The Deadman did an excellent job selling Orton’s offense and portraying him as a star throughout. Orton even turned one of The Undertaker’s famous chokeslams into his own RKO almost pinning the deadman. But somehow The Deadman was victorious, but for Randy, he became a huge star.
