Randy Orton's father updates on his WWE return

Randy Orton has been absent from WWE television for over a year. The 14-time world champion suffered a back injury after his and tag partner Matt Riddle's loss against The Usos in May 2022, which resulted in Jimmy and Jey becoming the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.

Randy Orton hasn’t been seen in a WWE ring in quite some time, but his physical problems may be more serious than previously thought. His father, Bob Orton Jr., claimed in an interview with WrestleBinge with Sportskeeda that medical specialists may have advised “The Viper” to retire from the squared circle, but it doesn’t mean Orton would listen to them.

“He’s training, so we’ll see what happens; I don’t know. If he feels like going back or he feels like he’s ready to go back, I think he might. Then again, he’s pretty well taken care of. I don’t think he needs to. And I think the doctors have told him not to. But Randy will do what Randy wants to do.”

Orton has been out since November of last year due to a back issue. According to reports, he had surgery to fuse his lower back, but the treatment in question implies he’ll be out for a long time. A recent health report indicated that Orton is not on the verge of returning to WWE, yet his father’s disclosure has cast doubt on his ability to do so.

However, Orton Jr. stated that his son’s desire to return mirrors the attitude of many wrestlers who find it tough to call it quits before they believe their time is done. “Wrestling, you know when you get in there and you got some people going crazy, you just love it. So it’s hard to leave” he explained.

While his son’s ring career looks to be in jeopardy for the time being, Orton’s father stated that he has a decent family life. “He has two lovely daughters, and his wife is a lovely lady.”

Randy Orton last appeared at WrestleMania 39 backstage

Randy Orton is one of the most recognizable superstars in the WWE, and fans were saddened to learn that he is currently recovering from an injury. Fortunately, the latest update on Orton’s condition is positive, and it looks like the WWE legend may be back in action sooner than expected. On May 26th, 2021, it was announced that Randy Orton had suffered an undisclosed injury, forcing him to miss the upcoming WWE Payback event. Following the announcement, there was a lot of speculation about the extent of the injury, with many wondering if the veteran would be out of action for a long period of time.

Given that he has been a fixture at the event since 2004, a WrestleMania without Randy Orton would seem unnatural. Yet it also appeared bound to happen this year, since the multi-time world champion has been out of the picture for over a year while he recovers from a back ailment.
