Rick and Scott Steiner defected to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), WCW's main rival, in December 1992.
Robert Rechsteiner a.k.a Rick Steiner was born on March 9, 1961. He is an American real estate broker and semi-retired professional wrestler. Steiner is most known for his eight-time World Tag Team Champion run with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) (seven times with his brother Scott Steiner as half of The Steiner Brothers, and once with Kenny Kaos). He was a three-time World Television Champion and a one-time United States Heavyweight Champion in addition to his tag team success. Steiner and Scott also won the IWGP Tag Team Championship twice in New Japan Pro-Wrestling and the World Wrestling Federation.
Steiner was a strong amateur wrestler at the University of Michigan, where he finished second in the Big Ten Championships in 1983, qualified for the NCAA tournament, and set the school’s quickest pin record of 15 seconds. Steiner wrestled Tab Thacker of North Carolina State in the 1983 NCAA tournament. After graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in teaching, he was introduced to professional wrestling by George “The Animal” Steele and entered the business right away.
He wrestled under the ring name Rob Rechsteiner for a while before switching to Rick Steiner. He worked for the American Wrestling Association, the Montreal Promotion International Wrestling, and the Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF). He established a tag team with Sting in the UWF and won the UWF World Tag Team Championship in 1987. He also fought for New Japan Pro-Wrestling in 1987. Jim Crockett Jr. purchased the UWF in 1988, acquiring a large portion of its roster (including Steiner) for his National Wrestling Alliance area, Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP).

Rick and Scott Steiner defected to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), WCW’s main rival, in December 1992, when WCW Executive Vice President Bill Watts lowballed them on a contract extension and then offered them the option of getting out of their current contracts early. They were very successful in the WWF, winning the World Tag Team Championship twice from Money Inc. (Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster). Rick stated that Vince McMahon was not following through on commitments made to the Steiners, therefore the pair quit the WWF in 1994.
Rick made his first appearance in the rebranded World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) since 1994 at NXT New Year’s Evil, celebrating his son Bron Breakker’s first NXT Championship win against Tommaso Ciampa. On April 1, 2022, Rick and Scott Steiner were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Rick was abducted by Joe Gacy and Harland and held up and shackled inside a cage a few days later, towards the end of the April 5 edition of NXT after his son Bron retained the championship.
