John Charles Layfield (born November 29, 1966, Sweetwater, Texas, United States) is an American businessman, television personality and retired football player and professional wrestler better known by his in-ring name John Bradshaw Layfield. Layfield is currently a financial commentator and is featured regularly on Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. He is also employed by Northeast Securities as its senior vice president.

Bradshaw made his name in the WWE during the Attitude Era. He and Ron Simmons (also known as Farooq) formed a faction known as the Acolytes Protection Agency (APA) and won the tag team titles three times. In 2004, the APA separated and Layfield was rebranded as JBL, a rough-mannered, brawling, blustering, bad-tempered and bigmouthed Texas elite businessman, driven into the arena by limousine. The gimmick was built off of Layfield’s real-life accomplishments as a stock market investor. 

Later that year, he captured the WWE Championship and held it for 280 days. A month before his in-ring retirement at 2009’s WrestleMania 25, he became Intercontinental Champion, which made him the 20th Triple Crown Champion and the 10th Grand Slam Champion in WWE history.

After his retirement, Layfield became an on-air commentator for WWE programming. Layfield was inducted into the 2021 WWE Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2020.

Bradshaw’s signed with the WWE in 1995 and made his in-ring debut in 1996 which ended by defeating Bob Holly. Later, he joined “The New Blackjacks”. He changed his ring names and appearances frequently from Bad Santa, Blackjack Bradshaw, Death Mask, and Johnny Hawk, but he became recognized for the name John Bradshaw Layfield.

In his wrestling career, Layfield won some of the best titles. He became a WWE Champion after defeating Eddie Guerrero and held the title from the 27th of June 2004 to the 3rd of April 2005. He was also a one time Triple Crown Champion, a one time US Champion, a one time European Champion, a one time International Champion, an 18-time Hardcore Champion, and a three-time World Tag Team Champion with Farooq as part of the Acolytes Protection Agency (APA). He was also a Grand Slam Champion. JBL was involved in some great matches with wrestling legends like John Cena, Batista and The Undertaker etc.

In 2009, he retired, from his wrestling career and started working as a commentator on SmackDown.
