Former World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton once stated that he, like The Undertaker, will complete his career in WWE. The illustrious 30-year WWE reign of The Phenom came to a conclusion at Survivor Series 2020, where he was given a fitting send-off. The Deadman was then inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022.

Randy Orton celebrated 20 years in the WWE last year and talked about his history as a wrestler. The Viper vowed that he will establish a legacy comparable to The Undertaker by never leaving the Stamford-based promotion for another organization. Here’s what he had to say:

“You know, a lot of people ask me what my legacy will be? I think, if we are talking WWE, more specifically. My legacy will be, that I was the next guy after The Undertaker, that was the only person that never went anywhere else, and had more matches, more titles, more accolades,” said Orton. [13:34-13:53]

The Undertaker vs Randy Orton rivalry

Randy Orton, then 22, was given the opportunity of a lifetime on SmackDown when he fought The Undertaker for the Undisputed Title in May 2002. This was the first time the two had ever met.

Throughout the match, Taker would do a hip toss, a massive backdrop, and a clothesline over the top rope. That demonstrated how kind he would be to younger talent. As Vince returned to Gorilla, he was furious at Undertaker for being way too kind.

Three years later, Randy Orton had become the youngest world champion and the self-proclaimed Legend Killer.

Randy was approached by Bruce Prichard, who informed him that The Undertaker had wanted to cooperate with him at WrestleMania. With his confidence and arrogance at an all-time high, Randy challenged The Undertaker to a ‘Legend vs Legend Killer’ bout at Wrestlemania. Randy only needed a slap to the face to have Taker’s undivided attention.

The Undertaker overcame Randy Orton at Wrestlemania 21, but not without a close call that captivated the audience. Randy Orton looked to have won the bout when he executed an RKO, but The Undertaker kicked out at the last second. Bob Orton Jr. also made an appearance and intervened, striking Taker with his cast. The match ended when Orton attempted to deliver his own Tombstone, only for The Undertaker to invert it and strike his iconic Tombstone for the win.
