WWE on Thursday released a number of its members from its developmental brand NXT. The company said in a statement that it is a process of evolution for the brand. It is notable that the releases and budget cuts have been in place since the outbreak of Covid-19 and looks to be a part of  the restructuring for the brand. “With the continued evolution of NXT 2.0, we’ve decided to part ways with some of the staff based in our Performance Center. We thank them for their many contributions throughout the years and wish them the best,” read their statement.

And among the names that were released from the brand, one surprising member was their Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting William Regal, who was also incharge of the main talent scout for the company apart from working as the General Manager for NXT.

His departure saw tributes being flooded on social media with former NXT Champion Kevin Owens tweeting a heartfelt message. He mentioned that it is due to the guidance of William Regal that he has reached so far in his career and wants to continue following his footsteps in future.

“I truly can’t overstate this: There is no chance I would be where I am today without William Regal. I’m so grateful for his advice and guidance throughout the years. An absolute example of what I aspire to be when my time as an active performer in the ring is done,” Kevin Owens tweeted.

Owens and Regal squared-off multiple times and the former had also laid hands on the General Manager during the contract signing for the NXT Championship Match at TakeOver: Brooklyn. He had, however, apologised to him later and the duo had developed a special bond.
