Kenneth Wayne Shamrock, a.k.a Ken Shamrock, was born on 11 February 1964. He is a retired professional wrestler, mixed martial artist, and kickboxer who promotes bare-knuckle boxing in the United States. He is most known for his appearances in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and other combat sports. Shamrock is a member of the UFC Hall of Fame and is widely considered a pioneer and icon of the sport. In the UFC and Pride FC, he has headlined over 15 main events and co-main events and has established multiple MMA pay-per-view records. Shamrock was dubbed “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” by ABC News in a series called “The World’s Most Dangerous Things” early in his UFC career.

“The World’s Most Dangerous Man”

Shamrock’s feud with Royce Gracie made him famous in the UFC early on. After a draw in the first UFC “Superfight,” he fought Dan Severn at UFC 6 to become the first UFC Superfight Champion; the title was subsequently replaced by the UFC Heavyweight Championship when weight divisions were added to the UFC. He also became Japan’s first foreign MMA champion, capturing the King of Pancrase Openweight title. He was widely regarded as the best mixed martial artist in the world during his time as the UFC Superfight Champion.

Wrestling career

Shamrock had a successful professional wrestling career in addition to mixed martial arts, notably during his time with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now the WWE). He has held the titles of Intercontinental Champion, World Tag Team Champion, and King of the Ring in 1998. Shamrock also fought for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA, now Impact Wrestling), where he was a one-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion and a 2002 Gauntlet for the Gold winner. In both organizations, he headlined several pay-per-view events, notably D-Generation X: In Your House in 1997, when he contended for the WWF Championship. Shamrock was also one of the first wrestlers in the United States to adopt the shooting style of wrestling, and WWE credits him for popularising the genuine ankle lock submission technique.
