Jeffrey Leonard Jarrett (born July 14, 1967, Hendersonville, Tennessee, United States) is an American professional wrestler, wrestling promoter, podcaster, actor, and businessman who is known by his in-ring name Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett came into the spotlight when he made his debut with a country music star gimmick in the WWE in 1992. Over the next nine years, he moved between WWE and WCW. After WCW was purchased by Vince McMahon in 2001, Jarrett joined World Wrestling All-Stars. After departing the promotion in 2014, Jarrett founded another new promotion, Global Force Wrestling (GFW).

Beginnings

Jarrett wanted to become a basketball player when he was in high school, but he worked for his father Jerry Jarrett’s Continental Wrestling Association as a referee in March 1986 and trained as a wrestler under his father and Tojo Yamamoto. Jarrett made his in-ring debut at the age of 18 against Tony Falk. Jarrett is a third-generation wrestler and promoter who has had over 80 championship reigns throughout his career, among them the NWA World Heavyweight Championship (six times), WCW World Heavyweight Championship (four times), WWA World Heavyweight Championship (two times), USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship (three times), and AAA Mega Championship (two times). He was inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame in 2015 and the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.

Jeff Jarrett in WWE

Jeff Jarrett made his debut in the WWE on August 9, 1992, when he took part in a cross-promotional feud between WWE and USWA. After defeating Kamala by disqualification that night, Bret Hart accepted Jarrett’s challenge for a match the next time that they came to Memphis. At a taping in Louisville, Kentucky, Jarrett scored the biggest victory of his still young WWE career by defeating Rick Martel. However, the scheduled match between Bret Hart and Jarrett on October 31 in Memphis was cancelled due to poor weather. Eventually, Jarrett would go on to lose many house show matches with Bret Hart starting in early December 1993, then again in early January 1994, but not in his hometown of Memphis.
