Terry Eugene Bollea (born August 11, 1953, Augusta, Georgia, United States), better known by his in-ring name Hulk Hogan, is a retired American professional wrestler and television personality. He is widely regarded as the most recognized wrestling star worldwide and the most famous wrestler of the 80s and 90s from the WWE.

Hogan was born to Pietro “Peter” Bollea who was a construction worker and Ruth who was a dance teacher. His father was of Italian descent and his mother was of Scottish and French descent. His family moved to Tampa, Florida when he was a child. As a boy, Hogan was a pitcher in Little League Baseball. He attracted scouts from the New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds, but an injury ended his baseball career. Then at the age of 16, he began to watch professional wrestling. While in high school, he revered Dusty Rhodes and he regularly attended wrestling shows at the Tampa Sportatorium.

He went on to study at Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida. Growing up, Hogan was an aspiring musician and eventually, he and two local musicians formed a band called Ruckus in 1976. The band soon became popular in the Tampa Bay region.

However, wrestling was his true passion. He received his training from the famous trainer Hiro Matsuda. On the first day of training, Matsuda broke Hulk Hogan’s leg. Hogan returned as soon as his leg healed and in doing so, earned the respect and admiration of the coach.
