Veteran Bill Goldberg will take on the longest-reigning WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns in the most-anticipated summit clash of the Elimination Chambers 2022. It is touted to be his last in-ring encounter of his current contract under the company. But he is further willing to take responsibility and renew his contract if he beats The Tribal Chief in the summit clash of the Elimination Chamber. It is as he believes that the champion’s should set an example and not walk into the sunset after a major victory.

“I would not ride off into the sunset if I was victorious by any stretch of the imagination, because the champion’s responsibility is to be there on television and represent it to the nth degree. If I was victorious, I would not run out of here, I would not hold anybody up, I would not do anything like that because of what the business has given me,” Goldberg said on Corey Graves’ After The Bell podcast.

“It does present a very interesting predicament, shall we say, and I try not to look past my current adversary. I’ll deal with that situation afterwards. But, for right now, this could be the last one, and I’ve gotta go out in the right way. I’m gonna try to break Roman’s face and every other part of his body so I can be that Universal Champion.”

Roman Reigns continues to add to legacy

Reigns who was an important part of The Shield set a new record as WWE Universal Champion by maintaining his position for over 500 days. Reigns has, thus, become the longest reigning Universal Champion. In fact, he surpassed Brock Lesnar’s previous record of 503 days from 2017-2018 which came to an end at the hands of none other than The Head of The Table himself.

Reigns made a comeback at the SummerSlam last year with Paul Heyman to claim the Universal title for the second time after overcoming WWE legends Edge, John Cena and The Beast in a No Holds Barred Triple Threat Match.

Following the fallout, Reigns continued to team-up with Ambrose. But, he started embarking as a singles contender and challenged for the world title. Reigns and Rollins were earlier supposed to clash in 2014. But the former developed a hernia which had to be addressed and he was unable to compete at the event. He was also awarded the Slammy Award for the Superstar of the Year in 2014.

Reigns has seen significant growth at the company since then. He also completed 500 days as WWE Universal Champion after defeating Braun Strowman and The Fiend at WWE Payback in 2020.
