At Survivor Series, Brian Kendrick was back in the WWE, producing alongside Jason Jordan the SmackDown Women’s Title match in which Ronda Rousey defeated Shotzi to successfully defend her title. Due to what transpired after his previous employment with the company, this surprised a lot of people, including WWE employees as well as fans.

His final WWE match took place in October 2020, after which he moved into a backstage position until WWE granted him his contract release in February 2022.

Just one day after leaving WWE, he was scheduled to make his AEW debut on Dynamite versus Jon Moxley. Fans shared previous videos of him making claims about the Holocaust and other conspiracies, which forced AEW to pass on hiring him.

Dave Meltzer mentioned on Wrestling Observer Radio that Rousey requested for him to be brought back since he was her initial trainer and she needed him for her Survivor Series match.

“So, what happened was, Ronda Rousey…Brian Kendrick was Ronda Rousey’s original wrestling trainer. She suggested…she asked for him to be brought in for her match with Shotzi. He was in on Saturday, and it was not a hire. You could say it was a tryout, I wouldn’t say it wasn’t a tryout, but it really wasn’t like a normal tryout. It was more Ronda Rousey asked for him to help her. Jason Jordan also produced it, but she asked for Brian to be brought in, so they brought him in.”

Nobody thought that Shotzi Blackheart could dethrone Ronda Rousey here, so this bout was always going to be difficult to draw in the audience. At times, it resulted in a somewhat quiet audience, but they made a concerted effort to engage them with Rousey’s trash-talking and Blackheart’s removal of her offensive from the ring. This match, though, had a few too many awkward moments that prevented it from really picking up speed, making it feel unworthy of being a premium live event match. They couldn’t stage a memorable meeting since the plot wasn’t there and they didn’t have enough time.
