The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes will take on Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal title at WrestleMania 39 and it’s looking more and more likely that he will dethrone The Tribal Chief at the grandest stage of them all. Cody is not just another wrestler but he is the son of WWE legend Dusty Rhodes. After he made his debut in his early 20s, Cody’s career did not take off as he would have expected and that led him to leave the WWE in 2016.

After he left WWE, he wrestled across the world, from Mexico to Japan and finally formed AEW with his friends. He has fought in big arenas across the world but nothing comes close to the mecca of wrestling, Madison Square Garden. In a recent interview with Josh Martinez, Cody reminisced by favorite moments at the iconic venue.

Cody said, “My first Royal Rumble was in Madison Square Garden. And they still had the old entrance. People today, they’re like, ‘Bring the old entrance back.’ They don’t realize they’ve welded shut that area. It’s not coming back.”

He also spoke about a live event match which saw him and his brother Goldust take on Cesaro and Jack Swagger. “The other one was, I had a live event match, myself, my brother versus the Real Americans in a steel cage.  I did a moonsault off the cage and onto Cesaro, and that was the first time I ever did it.”

Cody Rhodes gives his thoughts on potential triple threat match at WrestleMania 39

The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes is on a wave of euphoria after winning the 2023 WWE Royal Rumble. He is scheduled to take on Roman Reigns at the grandest stage of them all and is the fan favorite to win the title and dethrone Roman after two years of dominance.

There was a spanner that was thrown into the works in the form of Sami Zayn. Zayn turned on the Bloodline and even took on Roman Reigns for the undisputed WWE title at Elimination Chamber in Montreal where the fans were hot for Zayn. There were rumors that WWE could include Sami Zayn into the WrestleMania main event similar to what happened with Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 30.

Cody was speaking to Ariel Helwani when he shed more light on if he liked the idea of a triple threat match to which he replied, “No, I don’t really have a preference. Solely because I want to wrestle the best. People wanted a contender forever. So if two show up, don’t be mad. Don’t make it about A or B, or B or A, or one or two. Enjoy it all. That’s really been kind of the challenge. Can’t begrudge a dude for getting super hot.

“I have no preference in terms of the direction it goes. Really look forward to the moments when I’m in there if they happen, Sami, whether that’s just on the Road to WrestleMania, because I think it’s different than people think. I think he’s doing amazing.”
