There is much conjecture surrounding The Rock’s potential WWE comeback with the Royal Rumble less than a week away, maybe at the Royal Rumble event itself or at WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that The Rock may not be competing in the ring at all as a result of not having enough time to prepare for a fight against his cousin Roman Reigns. This is the most recent development regarding The Rock’s hotly anticipated WWE comeback.

The Rock lost the WWE Title to John Cena in the WrestleMania 29 main event ten years ago, which was his last official match. That match also resulted in several injuries to The Rock. Three years later, The Rock defeated Erick Rowan in his final “match” in the WWE, albeit it was really simply a Rock Bottom with no bumps. In a recent interview with Sportskeeda’s Wrestle Binge, Bobby Lashley predicted that The Rock’s return to WWE would boost the company’s reputation significantly.

Lashley said, “What would it mean to the company? The Rock is a huge star. So, of course, if he comes back, it’s going to bring a lot of notoriety to us, and being in Hollywood this year, I think there would be a good opportunity that he may be back.”

He added saying, “I don’t know. I have been asked several times if The Rock is coming back. We don’t know anything. I don’t even know what I’m doing next week. I can’t really tell you what The Rock is doing, but of course, everybody would love to see The Rock. He’s a huge star. So if he comes back, it’ll be good for all of us.”

Dwayne Johnson owns “The Rock”

One of the most well-known personalities in the world today is Dwayne Johnson. Much of the acclaim is due to his time spent in the WWE, where he rose to fame by playing The Rock. Despite being aligned as a heel at the time when he initially referred to himself as “The Rock,” his electric appearance and amusing promos immediately made him a fan favorite.

But as he advanced in Hollywood, he started to use his own name more and more, to the point that some of his younger followers are unaware of his background in wrestling. Many people have been left to question if this is related to the WWE owning the trademark on that moniker.

The WWE is renowned for owning the participants’ ring names. Even John Cena, who competes under his own name, has acknowledged in the past that the WWE is the rightful owner of the John Cena trademark. Is the same true with Dwayne Johnson and the moniker “The Rock”?

One of the most important characters on WWE TV is The Rock. It’s odd that Vince McMahon doesn’t already own the name for this reason. In 2004, Dwayne Johnson made the startling admission that he and not a WWE official owned the rights to his ring name during an interview on The Howard Stern Show.

“I actually own it, I do, yeah,” Dwayne Johnson said. “It was an easy conversation. This is how it went down: I went to him [Vince McMahon], I talked to him and he knew what I wanted to do after wrestling because I’d been able to accomplish a lot. Which has always been great for me… I know he doesn’t [give away anything for free],”

Johnson strongly asserted that he did not have to pay anybody to use the brand when questioned if the WWE may attempt to acquire the rights to the moniker.

“No, no, no. I have my name, I own my own name. And all rights to it… I did not have to pay for it.
