Andre Rene Roussimoff was a French professional wrestler and actor better known by his in-ring name Andre the Giant in the WWE. The Giant was born on 19 May 1946 in Coulommiers, Seine-et-Marne, France. He was known for his great size, which was a result of gigantism caused by excess growth hormone (acromegaly). That disorder also led to him being called “The Eighth Wonder of the World”. After his death in 1993, Andre became the inaugural inductee into the newly created WWF Hall of Fame. Outside of wrestling, he is best known for appearing as Fezzik, the giant in the 1987 film The Princess Bride.

Andre made his WWE debut in 1982 when Vince McMahon took over the company from his father. He needed new wrestlers to expand his company, and Andre was one of the very first wrestlers that he signed up. Andre was so important to Vince that he made several exceptions for him including allowing him to fight in New Japan Pro Wrestling. One of Andre’s greatest feuds was with Killer Khan who was also known as the Mongolian Giant. Another rival of his was Big John Studd. However, Andre ended up losing his matches by disqualification as nobody was able to pin him down.
