Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker are two of the most famous WWE talents of all time. In reality, their professional paths are very similar. Both began as difficult-to-beat monsters who were quickly propelled to the WWE Championship.

The Undertaker put the most renowned active streak in sports entertainment on the line at WrestleMania XXX, but it was abruptly ended by Brock Lesnar at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. By losing to Lesnar, Taker’s epic string of 21 straight victories came to an end, leaving him with a 21-1 overall WrestleMania record. Despite Lesnar’s megastar status, his triumph went down as one of the biggest WrestleMania surprises in history.
Even in loss, the Phenom always finds to improve his game on the largest platform of them all, and WrestleMania XXX was no exception. Taker vs. Lesnar lived up to the anticipation before the outcome, and the surprising climax shook the Superdome.
During the build to WrestleMania, The Undertaker had the best of Lesnar for the most part, however the creative staff did a wonderful job of allowing The Beast Incarnate to enter the event on a high note by having him F-5 Taker on the go-home edition of Raw.
Even still, there was little faith that Lesnar could genuinely end the run. Lesnar appeared to be Taker’s physical equal, but the mechanics of the scenario suggested that Lesnar breaking the streak wouldn’t have made much sense. But it didn’t stop WWE from achieving the inconceivable.

Lesnar entered the contest as a mainstream celebrity, and defeating The Undertaker at WrestleMania does not change that. Losing against The Undertaker would have had no effect either. Furthermore, Lesnar was already well known as a part-time celebrity, so he may not be around frequently enough to reap the advantages of his victory against The Undertaker in the future.
Despite this, The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar had a spectacular match. The last match between Taker and CM Punk was very predictable, but it didn’t diminish the significance of the event. Most people assumed The Undertaker vs. Lesnar bout would be the same, but the swerve finish elevated the match to legendary stature.
The Special Counsel to the Tribal Chief opens up about the original plan for Wrestlemania XXX, and how Brock Lesnar found out he would be facing The Undertaker instead of CM Punk. While talking with InsideTheRopes, Heyman talked about the original idea behind Brock Lesnar breaking the streak.
Heyman said, “People are intrigued by Brock Lesnar vs CM Punk, why don’t we extend this to WrestleMania, and that was the first time we ever heard this idea.”
Paul Heyman imitates [Vince McMAhon], “Well I have a different vision for you (Brock Lesnar) at WrestleMania Brock”.
Heyman also, talked about how frustrated Lesnar became till Vince told him who his opponent will be at WrestleMania. Heyman continued imitating Lesnar as he asked Vince, “Okay! Vince, who am I working with at WrestleMania and Vince looks at Brock in the eyes and says, The Undertaker.”
After this conversation, Heyman and Lesnar went to his bus and Heyman heard a phrase he never heard before. Heyman asked Lesnar what does he think about his match with Taker, “I said what do you think, Taker huh! Going to work with Taker at WrestleMania and it was the first time ever heard the phrase and Brock just sat there, he was just sitting there and he was just you know staring we’re sitting at a table in his bus and Brock just looked up and he went 21& 1. I’m (Brock Lesnar) the one and I went Holy sh**, 21-1”
How do we make that happen and Brock just said, that’s what we’re gonna do. We’re gonna conquer that fu***** streak in WrestleMania.”
