Bajrang Punia, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Vinesh Phogat will lead the Indian Contingent for World Wrestling Championships 2022.

The World Wrestling Championships 2022 will be held in Belgrade, Serbia, between September 10 and 18, 2022. This will be the 17th iteration of the World Wrestling Championships which comprises the Men and Women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Initially, the United World Wrestling (UWW) had given approval to Russia and Serbia for hosting the World Championships in 2022 and 2023 respectively. However, the impositions on Russia led to Belgrade, Serbia hosting the championships in 2022. So, Russia will now be hosting the event in 2023.

World Wrestling Championships 2022: Indian Squad

In the women’s 50kg, Neelam made it to the world championships squad after the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chose to have a rematch between her and Ankush. Neelam had previously appealed at the time of her bout during the trials on Monday but her protest wasn’t taken into consideration. However, the WFI officials decided to have a rematch right after announcing the 10-member squad. Neelam emerged as the winner on criteria by picking up two points in the second half despite trailing by 1-3.
