The United States of America started Phase 2 with a win over the Dominican Republic before losing to co-hosts Poland.
The United States of America will be keen to bounce back from losing their last game when they take on Turkey in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 on Friday. At the start of the tournament, the USA were expected to go deep into the competition and so far they have lived up to the expectations. However, the upcoming contest will not be easy for them, as they will be coming up against an in-form Turkey side. Hence, both sets of supporters can expect to witness an action-packed encounter on Friday.
Turkey were drawn against a tricky Thailand in the Pool B opener during Phase 1. There was very little to separate them and it was evident with the way the match unfolded. In the end, Thailand won the contest 3-2. Since then, Turkey won their remaining four matches to finish top of Pool B with 11 points. They also started Phase 2 with two successive victories. Meanwhile, the USA won their opening four Phase 1 games but suffered a 3-0 humbling against Serbia in their next match. Overall, the USA managed 12 points from five games to finish second in Pool C. They started Phase 2 with a win over the Dominican Republic before losing to co-hosts Poland.

The 24-team tournament will run from September 23 through October 15. The teams are split up into four groups of six teams each, and they compete in a round-robin format. Each pool’s top four teams advance to the second round and the 16 teams are divided into two pools of eight nations. The countries coming from the same first-round pool only play against opponents from a different first-round pool. Each pool’s top four teams compete in a quarterfinal round, with the winners moving on to the semifinals. The World Championship trophy will be up for grabs for the last-four victorious teams, while the third-place match pits the losers against each other.
