Thailand will be hoping to get their acts together and finish the week on the high when they take on in-form Italy in the FIVB women’s Nations League fixture on Sunday. After playing 11 games, Thailand are placed 8th in the 16-team table with 15 points, while the Italians occupy third spot with 26 points. The Asian side is heading into the tie on the back of a disappointing 3-1 loss to the mighty Brazil on Saturday, while, on the same day, the Italian women’s defeated Bulgaria 3-0 in their last outing.

Thailand began the third week with a thumping 3-0 win over South Korea before losing 3-1 to Dominican Republic. And then, came up short against Brazil. On Saturday, Thailand lost 18-25, 24-26, 25-23, 23-25 to the South American champions. Italy, on the other hand, have been in supreme form, winning all three of their games in the third week of the competition. It started with a 3-1 win over Poland on June 29, before defeating South Korea with an identical scoreline. And then, thrashed Bulgaria 25-12, 25-19, 25-21.
In the preliminary round, 16 women’s teams will compete in pools of 8 teams under the revised format. During the pool stage, each team plays 12 matches. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host – Turkey – entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.
