Serbia will be looking to continue their winning run in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 when they take on Turkey. The defending champions have been unstoppable throughout this competition, having won all the matches they have played till now. They are the only remaining unbeaten side in the tournament now and they face a tricky Turkish test in the upcoming game in order to maintain their winning streak. Even though Serbia will head into this match as favourites, Turkey cannot be taken lightly.

Notably, Serbia are the current holder of this trophy after winning it four years ago against Italy. They have begun their title defence on a breathtaking note in this edition, winning all five Pool C matches to get 14 points. In Phase 2, Serbia have won all three games they have played till now to sit on top of Pool F. Meanwhile, Turkey were drawn against a tricky Thailand in the Pool B opener during Phase 1, which was won by the Asian nation. Since then, Turkey won their remaining four matches to finish top of Pool B with 11 points. They started Phase 2 with two successive victories before suffering a defeat against the USA in their last game.

FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 Format

The 24-team tournament will run from September 23 through October 15. The teams are split up into four groups of six teams each, and they compete in a round-robin format. Each pool’s top four teams advance to the second round and the 16 teams are divided into two pools of eight nations. The countries coming from the same first-round pool only play against opponents from a different first-round pool. Each pool’s top four teams compete in a quarterfinal round, with the winners moving on to the semifinals. The World Championship trophy will be up for grabs for the last-four victorious teams, while the third-place match pits the losers against each other.
