A difficult task awaits the Dominican Republic in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022, as they will be taking on one of the title favourites Serbia. The match on Wednesday will be heavily in the favour of the European side and for obvious reasons. They are the defending champions in the tournament and have so far lived up to the favourites tag, producing noteworthy results. Notably, Serbia are the current holder of this title after winning it four years ago against Italy. They started their title defence in impressive fashion in this edition, winning all five Pool C matches to get 14 points. The fact that four of their five victories were 3-0 makes it all the more impressive. On the other hand, the Dominican Republic had their ups and downs in the tournament till now. They finished third in Pool B with 11 points from five matches, having won three and lost two.

FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 Volleyball Format

The 24-team tournament will run from September 23 through October 15. The teams are split up into four groups of six teams each, and they compete in a round-robin format. Each pool’s top four teams advance to the second round and the 16 teams are divided into two pools of eight nations. The countries coming from the same first-round pool only play against opponents from a different first-round pool. Each pool’s top four teams compete in a quarterfinal round, with the winners moving on to the semifinals. The World Championship trophy will be up for grabs for the last-four victorious teams, while the third-place match pits the losers against each other.
