Poland will take on Turkey in a FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship fixture on Saturday. Both sides will be brimming with confidence after recording three wins from their opening four matches in Pool B. Meanwhile Poland are heading into the match on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Dominican Republic on Friday, while Turkey thrashed Croatia 3-0 a day earlier. The victory helped Turkey to move to nine points from four games and they are occupying third position in the Pool B standings. Poland, meanwhile, are sitting one place above their Saturday’s opponents, having collected the same number of points, but separated by set ratio.

Poland began the World Championship 2022 with three consecutive victories against the likes of Croatian (3-1), Thailand (3-0) and South Korea (3-0). The Central European nation were simply brilliant in their first three games, losing just one set. However, in their last outing against the Pool leaders Dominican Republic, Poland lost the match despite taking the first set. Turkey, on the other hand, started the tournament with a 3-2 defeat against Thailand, but then quickly got their acts together to get the better of South Korea (3-0), Dominican Republic (3-2) and Croatia (3-0).

FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 Volleyball Format

The 24-team tournament will run from September 23 through October 15. The teams are split up into four groups of six teams each, and they compete in a round-robin format. Each pool’s top four teams advance to the second round and the 16 teams are divided into two pools of eight nations. The countries coming from the same first-round pool only play against opponents from a different first-round pool. Each pool’s top four teams compete in a quarterfinal round, with the winners moving on to the semifinals. The World Championship trophy will be up for grabs for the last-four victorious teams, while the third-place match pits the losers against each other.
