Kochi Blue Spikers and Chennai Blitz will be eager to begin the second season of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League powered by A23, on a positive note when they take on each other in Bengaluru on Tuesday. It is safe to say that both sides did not have a memorable 2022 campaign, as they finished at the bottom of the league standings last year. Hence, they would be eager to begin this new season on the front foot in what promises to be an intriguing match between the two southern rivals.
In the league phase last year, Chennai Blitz could only manage to secure four points to finish sixth in the table. They had won two and lost four games. Speaking about the new campaign, Chennai Blitz skipper Naveen Raja Jacob said, as per a release, “In the second season, there have been several new players that have come up. It has become a huge platform for Indian players. All players are quite fit and all of us are using the opportunity that we have been given. Now, we just want to start us off with a win against Kochi.”
Naveen Raja Jacob also believed that witnessing the earlier matches in the Prime Volleyball League’s new season will give him a good idea about what to expect from this contest. “We have prepared well. We would have watched three games by tomorrow and we have already seen what areas we have to be mindful of. So, we are rectifying those areas and training along with that mindset,” he added.

On the other hand, Kochi Blue Spikers were only able to manage one win in the league phase last campaign. They finished at the seventh spot with just two points to their name. This season they would be eager to start the campaign on a positive note as they will be led by an experienced hitter from Peru, Eduardo Romay. For Romay, it is all about getting adjusted to the new environment as quickly as possible.
“For me, personally, being a foreign player, I am finding everything new. I am getting used to being the new guy. It has been about trying to understand how everyone trains and how they react. Nobody reacts in the same way as the other person. This is a very short season – so we need to do that fast. It’s part of the game, so it’s okay,” Romay stated.
Romay then opened up about his team’s preparation for this clash. He believes the morning training session before their first game against Chennai Blitz will be extremely key. “We have been trying to set up the last touches for tomorrow’s games. I think it’s important the team feels confident about what we have been doing and what we have worked on. Tomorrow’s morning session will be important because we will be in the court for the first time,” he added.

The Prime Volleyball League 2023, which is held from February 4 to March 5, will consist of 31 matches. The games commence at 7pm. On the double header days, the second match begins at 9:30pm. The Season 2 will be broadcast exclusively by Sony Sports Network across Sony Sports Ten 1, Sony Sports Ten 3 and Sony Sports Ten 4. It can also be livestreamed on SonyLIV. Besides, the 2nd edition of the PVL will be streamed globally on Volleyball World across all countries (except the Indian Subcontinent).
