In a FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nation’s League top of the table clash Japan will play Italy on Friday. After the completion of Volleyball Nations League’s first week’s games from June 8 to June 13th the second week’s action will run from June 21 to June 26 in Bulgaria and the Philippines. A total of 32 matches, 16 per venue will be played in Quezon City and Sofia respectively. At this moment, Japan sit at the summit of the standings with 13 points, having won four of their five games. Italy, on the other hand, sit at the third spot, level on number of wins with the leaders but separated by Set Ratio poits. Both sides have had similar kinds of results so far, losing only once. 

Japan began their second week in the VNL with a brilliant 3-1 win over Argentina on Tuesday. The scoreboard read 27-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-16. Prior to that, Japan started their season on a high with 3-1 margin victories over the Netherlands and China. Their first and only loss of the season so far came against the heavyweights USA (2-3). Japan, then, outclassed Iran in straight sets in their final match of the first week. Italy, on the other hand, began their second week of VNL with a dominant 25-16, 25-21, 25-22 victory against Germany on Wednesday. Prior to that, in the first week, Italy began with a 3-0 loss against France. But the Italians bounced back in style to win the next three games. They defeated Poland 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20, beat Canada 25-21, 25-18, 25-19 and narrowly edged past Argentina 25-20, 25-21, 16-25, 30-28 to end the first week on a high.

2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League Format

A fresh new format was enforced for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League ahead of the 2022 edition. The revised format will feature 16 men’s teams who will compete in pools of 8 teams during the preliminary round. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host — Italy — entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.
