Italy will be taking on Japan in a mouth-watering FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 encounter on Wednesday. It will be difficult to call a winner in the upcoming contest since there is not much to separate from either side. Both teams had a memorable Phase 1 outing, as they breezed into Phase 2. It will be the second match in Phase 2 for both sides, as they will hope to build good momentum with matches coming thick and fast in the World Championship.
Placed in Pool A, Italy were unstoppable throughout Phase 1. The Europeans came up with some eye-catching performances and results. They won all five matches they played in Pool A to get a total of 15 points out of them. Meanwhile, Japan were placed in Pool D. They had won four of the five matches they played in the competition to get 12 points. Their only defeat in Phase 1 came against a fellow Asian Nation in China.

The 24-team tournament will run from September 23 through October 15. The teams are split up into four groups of six teams each, and they compete in a round-robin format. Each pool’s top four teams advance to the second round and the 16 teams are divided into two pools of eight nations. The countries coming from the same first-round pool only play against opponents from a different first-round pool. Each pool’s top four teams compete in a quarterfinal round, with the winners moving on to the semifinals. The World Championship trophy will be up for grabs for the last-four victorious teams, while the third-place match pits the losers against each other.
