Italy will be taking on France in an eye-catching FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022 quarterfinal tie on Wednesday. Both European heavyweights were expected to go deep in the competition and so far they have lived up to the expectations by producing top-notch performances. However, only one of them might go further while the other has to drop out of the competition. With not much to separate them on paper, supporters can expect to see a tightly-fought contest in the first quarterfinal of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022.
France were placed in Pool D of the tournament. Despite sharing the group with some tricky opponents, the French nation were unstoppable in the group phase. They won all three of their matches against Slovenia, Germany and Cameroon to accumulate a total of eight points. The same can be said for Italy too. The Italians were ruthless in Pool E, as they defeated Turkey, Canada and China with little trouble to earn nine points from three matches. In the round-of-16, Italy overcame Cuba 3-1, while France beat Japan 3-2.

The 24-team competition will take place from August 26th to September 11th. All of the teams are divided into six groups with each pool consisting of four teams. The group phase will last for six days, with each team playing once against their pool opponents. Following the completion of the schedule, 16 teams will be ascertained. It will have all six pool winners, runners-up, and the best four third-placed teams. They will proceed to the first round of elimination.
