Italy will take on Cuba in the round of 16 of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022 on Saturday. The European nation will be the overwhelming favourites in the upcoming clash. Italy entered the competition as one of the favourites for the crown and so far they have justified the tag with impressive performances throughout the group phase. However, they will be well aware of the tricky test awaiting them in the last 16 of the competition. Cuba have made life difficult for their much-fancied opponents in a difficult group.
Placed in Pool B, Cuba were in a group alongside Brazil and Japan. Even though they lost their matches against these two nations, Cuba did not go down easily and put up a strong fight. They registered their only victory over Qatar to get four points from the group. Meanwhile, Italy were unstoppable in the group phase. The Europeans topped Pool E with relative ease after getting past Turkey, Canada and China. In the end, Italy managed nine points from three matches.

The 24-team competition will take place from August 26th to September 11th. All of the teams are divided into six groups with each pool consisting of four teams. The group phase will last for six days, with each team playing once against their pool opponents. Following the completion of the schedule, 16 teams will be ascertained. It will have all six pool winners, runners-up, and the best four third-placed teams. They will proceed to the first round of elimination.
