Italy will play China in a FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League fixture on Sunday. It will be the final day of the tournament’s second week’s fixtures before heading into a one week break. The second week of VMNL began on June 13 and will end on June 26 in Bulgaria and the Philippines. A total of 32 matches, 16 per venue, are being played in Quezon City and Sofia respectively. Italy defeated Slovenia with a scoreline of 25-19, 25-16, 25-21. The European heavyweights began the second week with a thumping 3-0 win over Germany before going down fighting against Japan (3-2). After playing seven games, the Italians sit at the 4th spot with 16 points from five victories. China on the other hand, are languishing at the 13th place with six points from two victories. The Asian’s are going through a tough period after a COVID-19 outbreak in the squad and saw two of their three games in the second week fortified because of the medical emergency.

A fresh new format was enforced for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League ahead of the 2022 edition. The revised format will feature 16 men’s teams who will compete in pools of 8 teams during the preliminary round. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host — Italy — entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.
