High-flying Italy will be taking on Cameroon in a mouth-watering FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 match on Saturday. The Pool A match will be interesting in many regards as both countries are the champions of their respective continents. The Women’s World Championship which is hosted in the Netherlands and Poland this year will take place from 23rd September to 15th October.

Italy are the 2021 Women’s Volleyball European Champions, as they defeated Serbia 3-1 in the final. Besides, the Italians are also the champions of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League. The European nation got the better of Brazil for the coveted trophy. Furthermore, Italy are also the runners-up in the Women’s World Championship after losing to Serbia in the final four years ago. Meanwhile, Cameroon will be no pushovers for the Italians. They are the reigning African champions and have won the crown on three successive occasions now – 2017, 2019 and 2021.

FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 Volleyball Format

The 24-team tournament will run from September 23 through October 15. The teams are split up into four groups of six teams each, and they compete in a round-robin format. Each pool’s top four teams advance to the second round and the 16 teams are divided into two pools of eight nations.  The countries coming from the same first-round pool only play against opponents from a different first-round pool. Each pool’s top four teams compete in a quarterfinal round, with the winners moving on to the semifinals. The World Championship trophy will be up for grabs for the last-four victorious teams, while the third-place match pits the losers against each other.
