World No.4 Germany will face superior ranked Turkey in the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League Round 1 clash on Sunday. The Germans are currently placed at the 11th spot with two wins and four losses after having accumulated eight points from their six outings while the World No.4 side are at the sixth spot in the points table with three wins and as many losses.
The German women started their campaign with losses against Brazil (1-3) and Japan (2-3) in their first-two matches of the Round 1. They later bounced back with a straight set victory over South Korea (3-0) before losing their way vs Poland (2-3) by a slender margin. However, the Germans later made a strong comeback with dominating wins over the Netherlands (3-1) and Italy (3-0).
The Turkish side, meanwhile, began their campaign with a 3-0 win over Italy before losing to China (1-3). They, however, later bounced back with resounding wins over Bulgaria (3-0), Belgium (3-1). But they ended on the losing side in their last two matches against Brazil (1-3) and Serbia (3-2).

In the preliminary round, 16 women’s teams will compete in pools of 8 teams under the revised format. During the pool stage, each team plays 12 matches. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host – Turkey – entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.

Saturday featured six matches in the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League Round 1. Serbia and Turkey were loggerheads in a close contest with the former side proving to be superior with a 25-19, 15-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13 (3-2) win. Meanwhile, Netherlands lost to Dominican Republic after taking a head start in the game 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 25-15, 7-15 (2-3). Bulgaria produced a dominating performance as they clinched a victory in straight sets to outclass Canada 26-24, 25-22, 25-21. Belgium, on the other hand, had a close encounter with Poland to emerge victorious after a 25-20, 15-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13 win. The other two matches are yet to take place.
