Germany will take on bottom side Australia in a FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League fixture on Thursday. Germany began their third week’s fixtures with two consecutive defeats against USA and Brazil respectively, while Australia lost 3-1 to Japan in their last outing. After playing 10 games, the Europeans are languishing at the 10th spot with seven points from three victories. Australia are rock bottom with just two points courtesy of one win from nine matches.
Germany began the tournament well, winning three of the opening four games. However, they lost their last seven games on the bounce, to sit at the 10th spot in the 16-team table. In their last game against Brazil, Germany suffered a 3-1 loss and the scoreboard read 27-25, 17-25, 20-25, 19-25. Meanwhile Australia have won only once and lost the remaining eight games. Their only victory came against Bulgaria. They will fancy their chances against Germany, who are on a two-game losing streak.

A fresh new format was enforced for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League ahead of the 2022 edition. The revised format will feature 16 men’s teams who will compete in pools of 8 teams during the preliminary round. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host — Italy — entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.
