Volleyball first came about in the late 1800s and became a part of the Summer Olympic Games since 1964. As such, the game has seen a number of great players come and go during that time. In current times, a number of countries having professional volleyball leagues and the rise of mediums like television and the internet have led to more eyeballs on sporting action in general around the world and volleyball is no exception. A number of countries excel at the sport and as such, there are many top players plying their trade around the world. Here we take a look at the best female volleyball players in the world right now.

Tijana Boskovic – The 24-year-old attacker from Serbia is considered one of the best players in the world right now despite having a large portion of her career lying ahead of her. 16 individual trophies, including numerous MVP awards as well as Best Opposite trophies as well as 12 winner’s medals/trophies in her club and international career. Her superb spiking ability and remarkable consistency will undoubtedly see her add to that tally over time.

Zhu Ting – China’s national volleyball team captain has proven herself as one of the greatest volleyball players in the world, both on an individual and team basis. A whopping 36 individual trophies as well as Olympic and World Championship glory saw her become the highest-paid professional volleyball player in the world – whether male or female – in the 2018/19 season. Her 6”6’ height is an advantage but her smooth style of attacking is what sets her apart.

Paola Egonu – This Italian volleyball player of Nigerian heritage is not quite as decorated as some of her peers in this list but her accomplishments are still impressive: talian Cup 3 times, the Italian Supercup twice, the Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, and the Women’s Champions League. Her form has been excellent in recent times and given that she also has time ahead of her, she can easily become one of the greatest of all-time in the coming years.

Kim Yeon-koung – The 33-year-old from South Korea is regarded as a generational talent in the game of women’s volleyball, with many fans and experts alike saying she is easily the best player in the past few decades. Over 40 individual awards as well as domestic success in China, Japan, Turkey and South Korea – not to mention medals for the Korea national team – means her status as one of the greatest remains practically untouchable. To top things off, she is one of the richest athletes in the field of volleyball.

Gabriela Guimaraes – The 26-year-old outside hitter, known popularly as Gabi, has been a consistent but dominant presence in the domestic scene in both Brazil and later Turkey. She won multiple domestic championships in her homeland and in 2019 joined Turkey’s VakıfBank S.K. She has also tasted success multiple times with the Brazil national team both in world as well as continental tournaments. Individually she is capable of putting in game changing performances too, making her a must-watch player.
