The 20th edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship will begin on Friday, as volleyball fans can brace themselves for several action-packed encounters in the coming days. The tournament which is hosted in Poland and Slovenia this year will take place from 26th August to 11th September. The 17 days of action will see 24 teams from across the world fighting for glory, with a total of 52 matches set to happen across three different cities. The co-hosts Poland are the two-time defending champions. They won the title in the 2014 and 2018 editions. It was originally scheduled to take place in Russia. However, the event was switched to Poland and Slovenia following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
There are a total of six groups in the tournament in the current edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship. On the opening day, a total of six matches will be played. The tournament will kickstart with three-time champion Brazil facing Cuba and it will be followed by Japan taking on Qatar. Later, the United States of America will be up against Mexico and France will play Germany. The much-awaited matches of hosting nations will take place late at night. First, Slovenia will take on Cameroon before Poland begins their action against Bulgaria.
The 24-team competition will take place from August 26th to September 11th. All of the teams are divided into six groups with each pool consisting of four teams. The group phase will last for six days, with each team playing once against their pool opponents. Following the completion of the schedule, 16 teams will be ascertained. It will have all six pool winners, runners-up, and the best four third-placed teams. They will proceed to the first round of elimination.
