The festive season has begun for the Volleyball fans with the 20th FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship kicking off on Friday. The tournament which is hosted in Poland and Slovenia this year will take place from 26th August to 11th September. The 17 days of action will see 24 teams from across the world fighting for glory, with a total of 52 matches set to happen across three different cities. The co-hosts Poland are the two-time defending champions, having won the title in the 2014 and 2018 editions. It was originally scheduled to take place in Russia. However, the event was switched to Poland and Slovenia following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Saturday’s action will begin with Turkey taking on China in Pool E. It will be followed by an European country Netherlands coming up against the Middle Eastern nation Egypt. Then simultaneously, Tunisia will face Puerto Rico and Argentina will take on Iran. It will be followed by an all-European clash with Ukraine facing Serbia. Later, three-time champions Italy will take on Canada.
The 24-team competition will take place from August 26th to September 11th. All of the teams are divided into six groups with each pool consisting of four teams. The group phase will last for six days, with each team playing once against their pool opponents. Following the completion of the schedule, 16 teams will be ascertained. It will have all six pool winners, runners-up, and the best four third-placed teams. They will proceed to the first round of elimination.
